National Institute of Mental Health

I mentioned National Institute of Mental health in my last blog entry, but this resource bears repeating. Their tagline, “Transforming the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses,” says a lot. It is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders and promotes a prevention-based outlook.

Go here for - continuing education, research news on science and mental health, informational reference pages, statistics. You can also learn about their many research areas and funding opportunities as well as how to join a study.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

Go here for - Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP), treatment options and locators, data on the intersection of substance abuse and mental health, access to training and technical assistance, condition or issue-specific publications and toolkits. There is also a directory of topics pages on wide range of topics such as Recovery and Recovery Support, Suicide Prevention and Wellness. Also, it contains extensive consumer help information and treatment information for substance use disorders.

The Institute for the Advancement of Behavioral Healthcare is a leading provider of learning resources for employees of behavioral health organizations.

National Alliance on Mental Illness

NAMI is the largest grassroots organization dedicated to mental illness education and advocacy.

Go here for – public policy reports, research reports , resource guides (consumer), factsheets and statistics , opportunities to take action in advocacy issues, information on common mental health conditions. The NAMI Advocate magazine and NAMI Discussion Groups are a members-only benefit.

Psych Central is the oldest independent website/online information resource for supporting the mental health consumer. It may also provide tools for counselors or practitioners.
