New Databases to Explore

Just a quick post on some of the new databases available to Lenoir-Rhyne students (undergraduate and graduate) through the library starting this summer!

Consumer Reports rigorously tests over 5,000 products a year to provide unbiased reports that help you choose what to buy. The magazine has been published by Consumer Union since 1930, and is "dedicated to unbiased product testing, consumer-oriented research, public education, and advocacy." Recommended for MBA students.

GreenFILE offers information "covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. The EBSCO database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 880,000 records and full-text to over 13,000 articles from scholarly, government, and general interest titles that include content on global warming, pollution, and sustainability topics. Recommended for Sustainability Studies and Public Health students.

History Study Center provides over 40,000 digitized primary and secondary documents and articles, supplemented by more than 50 reference works, 3,000 images, and links to 2,000 websites. This unique ProQuest resource covers global history spanning from ancient times to the present broken down into study units that "offer editorially selected material on over 500 historical topics." Recommended for Education students.

OpenDissertations was built to help researchers locate both historical and contemporary electronic theses and dissertations (ETD). The EBSCO database provides citations to graduate research from the early 20th century up to the present, with over 800,000 ETD and more added each day. Recommended for Counseling and Education students.

Open Library is an online project powered by the Internet Archive intended to create "one web page for every book ever published." Users can create an account to borrow available full-text books, create entries for editions of books not currently cataloged, and edit records for accuracy. Recommended for Masters of Writing students. 

Proquest Learning: Literature contains more than 180,000 full-text works of poetry, prose, and drama. This unique ProQuest resource provides primary and secondary sources including author biographies, interviews, multimedia, reviews, and literary criticisms from more than 100 literary journals and reference sources. Recommended for Masters of Writing students.
